Ten ‘Peak Moments’ of Church History
May 4, 2009
We have chosen a topic that allows John Frymire to facilitate our discussion out of his expertise and experience. The rest of us should read and reflect upon Catholic Update: Ten Peak Moments of Church History (pdf) by Alfred McBride, O. Praem. The author of: “From Pentecost to Vatican II: Ten Peak Moments of Church History” acknowledges that others may not agree on his choice of significant events. He names his criteria:
- The event had to advance the Church’s mission of salvation in a fundamental way
- The event had to generate an enduring and dynamic faith in Christ
- Its impact must still affect the Church today
So, see if you agree with this Norbertine priest who is a popular author of catechetical materials (27 books), lecturer, media representative for the Church, consultant on the Catholic Catechism for Boston archdiocese, etc.
Some considerations…
- What can today’s church learn from these events?
- Do you think we are still feeling the impact of……?
- Are there other events that you would add to this list…would you delete any of his choices?
