Opportunities to serve at Sacred Heart:

Director of Worship – The Director of Worship serves as the “check-in” of the various ministers needed at Mass. It is the Director of Worship’s responsibility to assure that all the ministry positions are filled, including Gift Bearers for the gifts.

Lector – The ministry of the Lector is to proclaim the Word of God to the assembly with reverence and confidence.

Communion Ministers – Communion ministers distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful. Distribution of the Body and Blood must always be done with reverence and an awareness of the sacred nature of the role. Communion ministers are commissioned for a period of three years and their names recorded at the diocese.

Hospitality Ministers – The ministry of Hospitality is to create a spirit of warmth and openness as parishioners and visitors arrive for Mass. The Hospitality Minister is the ambassador of welcome to the faithful.

Altar Servers – The ministry of serving at the altar is open to all boys and girls, 4th grade and older, who have made their first communion, as well as adults. Serving at the altar is an honor and a privilege and must always be done with a demeanor of respect and reverence.

Choir – The Sacred Heart Choir is open to all serious singers regardless of musical background. No audition is required however, an interview with the director may be needed to determine the best section for a voice. The choir sings from September to June at the Sunday morning Masses, usually at 8:30, and at other special celebrations and events as needed. The choir rehearses on Wednesday from 7 – 8:30 pm. Cantor – The cantor’s very important role is to proclaim the Psalm in song. At the 4:30 and 11:00 Masses the cantor also serves as the leader of the hymns and Mass parts. An interview and audition is required for this role. Please contact Christine for more information.

Faithful Friends – Faithful Friends are called on to help with funeral liturgies. It is the role of the Faithful Friend to represent the parish to the family of the deceased and show the parish’s deep respect and loss of their loved one. The Faithful Friends help support the singing of hymns and prayer responses and may be called on to serve as lector or communion minister if so trained. Commissions and Committees:

Liturgy Commission – The Liturgy Commission is made up of volunteers from the parish and is open to all who have interest in the liturgical process. The Liturgy Commission assists the Director in developing meaningful liturgies. The Commission also makes recommendations of policy to the Parish Council. Art & Environment – The Art & Environment Committee enhances the sacred Liturgy through decorating for solemnities and feasts as well as special seasons of the Church year.
