Sacred Heart observes Pentecost
There was singing, dancing and all manner of celebration at Sacred Heart Parish on the Vigil of Pentecost on May 19. A multicultural Mass was offered by our pastor, Father Francis Doyle, and Deacon Bill Caubet preached the homily. Singing in musical styles from around the world was provided by the 8:30 Mass choir, the 1 p.m. Spanish choir and the African choir. The general intercessions were read in German, Vietnamese, Kirundi, Mandarin, Portuguese, Spanish and English by parishioners from these countries.
After Mass, a celebration with foods from around the globe was hosted in the Activity Building. We were treated to foods from Japan, Brazil, Vietnam, Lebanon, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Philip-pines, Mexico, Germany, Ireland Scotland, Congo, Burundi, Tanzania, China, and many other European countries. And of course, hot dogs and mac & cheese represent-ing the USA! There was Sangria and beers from 11 different coun-tries to taste.
DJ Pedro Mesa, provided the music and several parishioners provided entertainment. It was so great to see children, elderly, and all of our cultures together dancing, sing-ing and enjoying each other’s company. To quote Father Francis, “We were dancing in tongues.”
